The Annapurna Base Camp Trek is one of Nepal's most beloved and rewarding trekking experiences, leading you deep into the heart of the Annapurna Sanctuary — a natural amphitheatre encircled by some of the world's highest and most dramatic peaks. Standing at base camp with Annapurna I, Machapuchare, Hiunchuli, and Gangapurna rising on all sides is a moment that stays with you long after the journey ends.
The trek begins in the lively city of Pokhara and climbs through terraced farmlands, traditional Gurung villages, and dense rhododendron and bamboo forests. The trail follows the Modi Khola River valley upward, gradually transitioning from warm subtropical hillsides to the stark, glacier-rimmed world of the high Himalaya. Each day the peaks grow closer and more imposing.
With Virgin Nepal Treks and Expeditions, you are supported by an experienced team every step of the way, ensuring your safety, comfort, and enjoyment throughout this unforgettable Himalayan journey.
Culture of the Annapurna Region
The lower sections of this trek pass through the heartland of the Gurung community, one of Nepal's most welcoming and culturally rich ethnic groups. Stone-paved village paths, traditional houses, and small wayside shrines reflect a way of life closely connected to the mountains. The warmth of teahouse hospitality and the spiritual stillness of the high sanctuary make the Annapurna Base Camp Trek as culturally enriching as it is physically rewarding.
Best Season
Spring (March to May): The hillsides burst into colour with blooming rhododendrons, skies are clear, and temperatures are comfortable throughout the trek.
Autumn (September to November): Stable weather, excellent visibility, and crisp mountain air make this the most popular season for trekking to Annapurna Base Camp.
