  • Duration 12 Days
  • Max Altitude 5000m
  • Season March-May/September-November
  • Group Size 2-15
  • Difficulty moderate

The Numbur Valley Trek is one of Nepal's most refreshingly quiet and visually rewarding off-the-beaten-path journeys, exploring the wild and beautiful landscapes below Numbur — the sacred holy mountain of the Solu Khumbu region. Known locally as the Numbur Cheese Circuit for the traditional yak cheese produced in its high pastures, this trek offers a rare and genuine encounter with Sherpa mountain life far from the busy trails of the Everest corridor.

The route climbs through terraced farmlands, dense rhododendron and oak forests, and traditional Sherpa villages before ascending into the open high-altitude pastures and ridgelines below the gleaming summit of Numbur (6,959 m). The landscape is raw, peaceful, and extraordinarily beautiful — a world of yak herders, stone shelters, wildflowers, and unobstructed mountain views that feels entirely untouched by the pressures of mass tourism.

The trek offers not only outstanding natural scenery but also a deeply authentic cultural experience. The Sherpa communities of the Solu region are warm, welcoming, and proud of their traditions, and the slower pace of life in these villages adds a meaningful and human dimension to every day on the trail.

With Virgin Nepal Treks and Expeditions, you explore the Numbur Valley with a knowledgeable and experienced team dedicated to giving you a safe, comfortable, and genuinely memorable Himalayan journey.

Culture of the Gaurishankar Region

The Numbur Valley lies in the heart of the Solu Khumbu, where Sherpa culture and Buddhist tradition are woven deeply into daily life. Sacred peaks, ancient gompas, prayer flag ridgelines, and the rhythms of yak herding and cheese making define the character of this region. Numbur itself is revered as a holy mountain, and the spiritual significance of the landscape adds a quiet and profound atmosphere to the entire trek that distinguishes it from more commercialised routes in Nepal.

Best Season

Spring (March to May): Wildflowers and rhododendrons bloom across the lower hillsides, skies are clear, and the high pastures are at their most lush and rewarding.

Autumn (September  to November): Crisp, stable weather and excellent mountain visibility make this a wonderful season for exploring the Numbur Valley.
